The Historical Development of Local Government and Urbanism in Turkey

Osman Nuri Ergin has made great contributions to the cultural. and intellec-tual life of Turkey. He worked for 46 years at the Istanbul municipality where he made great contributions to the practical functioning of the municipality. During his work at the municipality he systemized the activities of the munic-ipality, he set up an archive and started the studies on municipal training, he set up the municipal library of Istanbul, to which he donnated 11.000 books and manuscripts and he published the Journal of the Istanbul Municipality.
