The Prince

Machiavelli's The Prince has been incredibly influentialsince it was published 5years after his deathin 1532.it was written during the European Renaissance wheninteîlect and the discussion ofnew ideas was a mdespreadthem of the era. Machiavelli did not write The Prince tobecome famous but instead wrote his book to achieve aposition in the new Italian government formed by theMedici family. The Prince was mitten as a politicaîhandbook for rulers and has been used this way for manycenturies. The book has caused passionate debates andcontroversy since the day it was published and it appearsthat it will continue to do so. When The Prince waspublished, Italy was not a unified country but acompüation ofcity states that were ali fighting to gainpower över one another. Machiavelli was greatlyinfluenced and interested in the complicated nature ofEuropean politics.
